Surrogacy Expenses
Surrogacy is a significant investment, and it’s essential for intended parents to be financially prepared before entering into a match. While every journey is unique, having a realistic understanding of the costs involved allows intended parents to move forward with confidence and clarity.
Many intended parents begin their journey by creating and freezing embryos first. This step allows time to save additional funds before moving into the matching and pregnancy phases. As a general guideline, we recommend that intended parents planning a gestational surrogacy arrangement in Canada prepare a budget of approximately $120,000 CAD.
If you already have frozen embryos, a budget in the range of $80,000–$100,000 CAD is typically sufficient.
For international intended parents, an increased budget is recommended to account for the additional cost of a newborn medical insurance policy and other travel-related considerations.
It’s important to understand that the total cost of a surrogacy journey can vary. Factors that may influence expenses include:
-
Location of the surrogate and the intended parents, which affects travel, monitoring arrangements, and logistical costs
-
Fertility clinic selection, as fees and protocols differ across clinics
-
Number of cycles or procedures required, including medications and potential repeat transfers
-
Pregnancy-related expenses claimed by the surrogate, which may vary according to individual circumstances and needs
Each journey is different, and costs can shift depending on these variables. Our team is always available to help intended parents build a realistic plan tailored to their circumstances.
